Openfire (http://www.igniterealtime.org/projects/openfire/index.jsp), written in Java, is what I’m currently running on my server because of its ‘just-works’iness. Ejabberd still probably has the edge in features, and supports virtual hosting which, unfortunately, openfire doesn’t. PEP (per-user publish/subscribe) is the killer feature at the moment, and I’ll probably switch to Ejabberd again if they make a release with that before Openfire does.

Out of interest, having not taken any notice of Jabber servers etc for a while but having looked at Erlang briefly in unrelated circles, is the Erlang server still the one of “choice”? And have you been learning Erlang for that very reason yet?
